Tina
February 15, 2010
Tina’s voyage has been an unusually convoluted one. This adult female spent just over two months slowly looping through the seas to the northeast of Bonaire. At the end of November, she straightened her course and headed west and then angled south, skirting Aruba to arrive in mid-December off the coast of Venezuela’s Peninsula de Paraguaná. It appears that Tina may have arrived at her home feeding grounds.

During the night of September 15th a transmitter was fitted on a nesting hawksbill at Klein Bonaire. “Tina” nested at 1 am after coming ashore three separate times earlier in the evening. She was then safely secured in the turtle box by STCB staff and volunteers for transmitter application. At 4 am she was released and immediately departed to the sea.
Tina is the second turtle to be tracked this year as part of an STCB project being funded by UNESCO.
